An Open Letter To President Akuffo-Addo By Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi

Image
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President of the Republic of Ghana Jubilee House Accra. Your Excellency, February 4, 2019  OPEN LETTER ON RECENT EVENTS AT AYAWASO WEST WUOGON CONSTITUENCY I write to you in my capacity as a former Minister of National Security, as a son of the land, and as a father in the hope that you might exercise the moral authority of your Office to pull this nation back from the precipice on which it now stands. The scenes we witnessed during the by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon were utterly disgraceful and well-deserving of the condemnation of all true patriots of this nation. More importantly, those events were but another expression of a pervasive lawlessness, impunity and disregard for due process that our democracy certainly cannot survive if left unchecked. Nothing less than the very stability of this nation is at stake, for the next step from this point takes us over the edge and into the abyss. Your Excellency, I held the National Security p

World Cancer Day Celebrated In Kumasi

Image
"4th February 2019, marked World Cancer Day and I was privileged to honour it in Kumasi, the first city in Africa and fourth city in the world, to pilot the flagship Union for International Cancer Control City Cancer Challenge Programme. It was a pleasure to also welcome the President of the Union for International Cancer Control, Princess DINA MIRED of JORDAN. I believe one of the critical things to look at when it comes to cancer is prevention. This calls for increased awareness of the preventable causes of cancer and a need to encourage people to adopt healthy lifestyles, including exercising, eating healthy foods and quitting smoking and excessive drinking, We need to have a long-term commitment to improving the lives of citizens, build cancer care competence and structure, while maintaining the fight against HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and other infections.  It’s going to take a long time to build the infrastructure for cancer care, but we have to start somewhere.-&

Image
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the mining industry has what it takes to help make the economic transformation sought after in Africa, and, thereby, make the African peoples prosper. Whilst acknowledging that African countries have not always done well in the negotiations with the companies that have mined her minerals in the past, African, today, has come of age, and should not have to give unusual tax and royalty incentives, and mining companies should not expect to make extraordinary profits on the continent. That is why he told the gathering that, on 22nd January, 2019, the re-opening of the AngloGold Ashanti

Image
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has apologised to persons with disability after comments some have said slighted visual and hearing impaired persons. The Federation of Disability Organisations had condemned the comment and demanded an apology from the President. The President only used metaphor in his speech. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.  The President wrote: “Vis-à-vis the comments I made at the final rally prior to the holding of the by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon, which was won by the NPP candidate so emphatically, I am glad the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations recognizes it was a “political metaphor”. I did not intend any slight on Persons with Disabilities, nor would I ever, and I hope they know that. “If there has been any Government that has been on the side of Persons with Disabilities, it is my Government. We have increased the share of the District Assem

"It is important also to state that the New Patriotic Party, the party from which my Government was born, would never dream of competing with any other political party in unleashing violence on the Ghanaian people. President Akuffo-Addo Congratulates Lydia Seyram Alhassan,Mp Elect For Ayawaso West Wougon

Image
I congratulate Lydia Seyram Alhassan on her emphatic victory in Thursday’s by-election, in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. The electorate in the constituency has made an excellent choice, and I am confident she will serve their interests in Parliament with distinction. The isolated incident of violence, which occurred in the early stages of the election, was unfortunate and regrettable, and I condemn it in no uncertain terms. A by-election should be a peaceful and happy event, no matter how competitive. The Police is committed to conducting a rapid inquiry into the matter, and I expect all persons who are found culpable, at the end of the process, to face the full rigours of the law. It is important also to state that the New Patriotic Party, the party from which my Government was born, would never dream of competing with any other political party in unleashing violence on the Ghanaian people. Our policy, as espoused by the founding father of our political tradition, is “to liber
