Fight Against Galamsey Still On

If you recall, last Friday,14th December, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) announced the next phase towards lifting the ban on galamsey, which will commence today, Monday, 17th December, 2018.

It is for your information that under this next phase, mining activities is not being lifted for the entire small-scale mining sector. The new framework allows about 900 validated miners to resume work from today, Monday under a strict supervision and monitoring regime.

The aforementioned 900 validated miners have undergone training within the remits of the sustainable mining framework under the Akufo-Addo led regime as prescribed by the ICIM.

In furtherance to this, a first set of former Galamsey operators numbering about 3000 will also be grouped under the community mining program and given proper concessions to also mine under similar regulations and monitoring regime.

Provisions have been made for former Galamsey operators, who haven not been incorporated under this newly launched sustainable mining regime. Those who desire to mine again will have to apply, trained and allocated a proper concession to mine within the Policy framework.

Note that the list of compliant miners have been published in the electronic and print media and evidence of this is beneath this post. Also the published list will be available on the notice boards of the municipal and district assemblies.

It important to note that: illegal mining is still criminal, and all small-scale mining activities that do not conform to the IMCIMs requirements will face the law through this Christmas festivities.
